James was born and raised in Langley. Upon graduating from Aldergrove Community Secondary School, James obtained his Bachelor of Arts in Criminology from Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
James then began his legal education at the University of Alberta, where he was awarded the Belzberg Entrance Scholarship for academic achievement and community service. After his first year of legal studies, James transferred to the University of British Columbia, where he completed his law degree in 2017. While attending UBC, James was awarded the DLA Piper course prize in Negotiation and Dispute Resolution. During law school, James volunteered with Student Legal Services and participated in several negotiation competitions.
In his free time, James enjoys playing ice hockey, weight training, and hiking. James also enjoys attending trivia events, and is an avid Jeopardy fan.
